The Pistols have been quickly banned from each the Nashville and the Marquee. A return gig on the Nashville on 23 April demonstrated the band’s growing musical competence, but by all accounts lacked a spark. The Sex Pistols performed several cowl songs, together with the Who’s «Substitute», the Small Faces’ «Whatcha Gonna Do About It», and «(I’m Not Your) Steppin’ Stone», made well-known by the Monkees; according to attendees, they have been unexceptional musically other than being extraordinarily loud. He then launched a US tour with the Faces. Steve Huey of AllMusic has counterclaimed that Matlock «was even more enamored of The Faces and the mod teams prominently featured on London pirate radio in the late ’60s, as had been Steve Jones and Paul Cook».
